Who we are

Chemi Chemi is a not-for-profit Non-Governmental Organization founded in 2017 and registered in April 2020. Chemi Chemi is committed to serving humanity and primarily engaged in community empowerment through capacity building, economic empowerment, environment conservation, sustainable agricultural practices, and social justice. We work along Kenya's Coast, targeting five counties Kilifi, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale and Laikipia in Kenya. Chemi Chemi is a Kiswahili word for "Springs of Life- the times of new beginnings, renewal and growth”. We aspire to bring life and light to individuals, communities and the environment. We believe Service to humanity is Service to God. “For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light, we see the light” Our Slogan is "Transforming Minds, Empowering People" Poverty is the state of mind; therefore, by transforming minds through positive thinking, it's easy to empower and enhance the uptake of knowledge and skills by people to drive their development in various sectors.

Management

Mercy Mbogho, CEO

Mercy Mbogho is the Co-Founder and CEO of Chemi Chemi Organization. She is passionate about inspiring positive change by empowering the local community to build resilience in driving their sustainable development from a grass level (bottom-up approach). She believes local communities have what it takes to make this world a better place for the current and future generations. Community-led interventions through effective participatory involvement and engagement enhance ownership and sustainability of development actions in various sectors. She is a seasoned Program Management specialist with a wealth of expertise spanning over 20 years in community development, institutional capacity strengthening, and resource management. Mercy has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills in driving strategic initiatives that have transformed the organisation's impact. Her previous engagements include Program Manager and CEO of Kwetu Training Centre for Sustainable Development, Branch Manager -Young Women Christian Association (Coast Region) and Chief Operations Manager -Oceans Alive Foundation. While at Kwetu,she spearheaded the formation of the MTAKIMU Community Forest Association, being the first Mangrove Forest Association in Kenya and other community-driven initiatives in health and education sectors. Over 10,000 local community members have benefited from related nature-based enterprises from the Mangrove ecosystem. While at Oceans Alive Foundation, Mercy coordinated the development of the Kuruwitu Co-Management Plan 2022-2026 and the Site Level Assessment for Governance and Equity (SAGE) for Kuruwitu Comanaged Area. She has also served as a volunteer Technical Advisory Committee member UNDP Equator Prize Award. She also serves as a Board member of African Women in Fisheries and Blue Economy, Kenya (AWFBEK)

Rev Joseph Wachira is the Chairperson of the Chemi Chemi Board of Directors. He is involved in several charity projects through business mentorship on biblical principles. Rev Wachira is also the Chairman and Co-Founder of Deliverance Church International-Mtwapa in Kilifi County, Kenya.

Job Oigara, Tresurer

Job Oigara is a Certified Public Accountant with eight years of Finance Management experience and is Proficient at business management and, as a team player, always seeks to drive the realisation of business targets in organisational diversity while maintaining a firm focus on assured bottom-line gains and outstanding performance. Job Oigara serves as a Board Treasurer of the Chemi Chemi Organization.
